Considering the running example proposed in Sect. 10.1, if the company decides to provide an access to its database using Web APIs, it can provide an event search Web API accessible at the IRI http://api.A.com/events/search whose arguments may be searchterms, terms to search in the event title, location, a location name or geo-coordinates to use in filtering the search results, and date, a date range specified by label (e.g., Today, This Week, and Next week) or an exact range for limiting the list of results. For instance, http://api.A.com/events/search?searchterms=jazz&location=Milano&date=today encodes the request for events whose title contains the word jazz, and that may take place in Milano today. Figure 10.4 shows the JSON syntax of a possible answer, containing three events; the first one is entitled “The Jazz of Marco Bianchi and Paul Banks in Milan”, it takes place on January 1, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. in a Milan venue named “Magazzini Generali”, and it has two performers: Marco Bianchi and Paul Banks. The following two events are omitted for space reasons.
